Unite Community membership is going from strength to strength within our region. We now have two established Unite Community branches, the South Yorkshire branch and the Leeds branch. Unite Community also has active groups in Doncaster, Bradford, Grimsby, Hull, and Newcastle with other groups springing up all the time.
Organizing and activism are at the centre of strong communities, which is why Unite’s Community membership provides a way people can find and use their political voice. Whether it is taking a stand against a service closure or coming together to improve your living environment, as a Community member, Unite will be on your side.
These are seriously hard times for ordinary people within our region. Unite Community membership gives people out of work the chance to organize. Incomes, housing, our health, education and legal services – the very pillars of our society for more than 60 years – are now under assault. It is only through collective action do we have the chance to defend the things we have fought for generations.
Unite Community members have been involved in a number of large campaigns, whether that be campaigning against workfare or the cruel bedroom tax, or supporting our industrial members in dispute, most recently the Yorkshire Ambulance workers.
