Schumacher North is a regional forum devoted to exploring and promoting the ideas of deep ecology, sustainable development and social transformation pioneered by E.F. Schumacher, author of the groundbreaking book ‘Small Is Beautiful’. Since Schumacher’s death in 1977 an international community has grown up around his philosophy, centring on the annual Schumacher Lectures in Bristol and on Resurgence magazine and Schumacher College in Devon.
Schumacher North aims to bring this important work to the North of England, offering a varied programme of talks, courses, public lectures and other events, as well as practical initiatives, aimed at bringing about the sane, sustainable and compassionate world that Fritz Schumacher and his successors have envisioned.
