“Once again we return outside of Leeds Art Gallery to demand that Leeds City Council votes in favour of communities rather than help line capitalist pockets.
Despite a 70 week waiting list (minimum*) for residents to be rehomed and the council’s promise to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2025, the council are considering granting planning permission for property investors Pemberstone to needlessly destroy and rebuild 70 homes. We think that is unacceptable.
Our last demo in June (which you can read more about here: https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest/residents-facing-eviction-due-to-plans-to-demolish-70-leeds-home-protest-in-city-centre-1-9849094) helped spread some awareness. Now what we need is action. Ahead of the council’s decision at 12:30 on the 3rd October at Civic Hall, we ask you all to come out and protest with us.
*A 70 week wait is for those who are seen as ‘highest priority,’ which means some residents could be waiting a lot longer.
