Join us for this inspiring talk about compassionate activism.

Leeds City Council launched the Compassionate City Awards in 2018.The Council’s commitment to being a Compassionate City with a strong economy is part of its vision to be a city of wellbeing where everyone is included. Gloria Kimberley interviews Councillor Blake about what this means in practical terms for Leeds and how the Festival supports this vision.

Satish Kumar is an environmentalist and peace activist who grew up as a
Jain monk in India. He is known as ‘The Peace Pilgrim’ for walking 8000
miles from the grave of Ghandi to the grave of Kennedy in aid of world
peace in the early 1970’s. He also co-founded Schumacher College the
leading ecological college in the UK, is editor of Resurgence Magazine and
is author of several books including “Soil, Soul Society” and “You Are
Therefore I Am”. Satish has been a life long champion and practitioner of
Compassion and Wellbeing and is chairman of the Network of Wellbeing
who are partners of the festival.

He famously said “ We cannot have wellbeing alone”. Come and hear why
compassion is the ground in which wellbeing can flourish.
