Our Future Leeds, in collaboration with Green House Think Tank, invites you to this discussion and learning event. The evening is aimed at deepening our understanding of, and strengthening our response to, the triple crisis that we are facing: the climate emergency, the ecological emergency and the deep injustices that we are seeing in the UK and globally.

***Doors 6.30pm, event start 7.00pm***

Tickets: https://facing-up-to-the-triple-crisis.eventbrite.co.uk

The evening will offer short and exciting talks, a panel discussion, and open discussion spaces, to explore different perspectives around the big challenges of our times. Together with leading thinkers and Leeds activists, we will discuss what these issues mean to our lives and livelihoods, and how we can tackle these together in our city. To kick off the discussions, Anne Chapman and Jonathan Essex from the Green House Think Tank will present key ideas from their recently published book ‘Facing up to climate reality: Honesty, Disaster, Hope’

Green House have been at the forefront of thinking on the complex and systemic nature of the climate and ecological crisis for nearly a decade. Their latest book ‘Facing up to Climate Reality’, provides a bleak account of the climate crisis, offering a perspective rarely heard in the mainstream debate. The authors propose that by embracing the true reality of environmental breakdown through transformative adaptation, we may be able to confront the escalating climate chaos whilst not giving up hope.

This is our opportunity to debate and discuss various viewpoints and aspects of the triple crisis, and what this may mean for our lives in Leeds. Join us in exploring Our Future Leeds’ central claim that we need to address the climate and ecological emergencies in tandem with the fundamental injustices of our broken political-economic system. Our mission is to foster alliances across the environmental and social justice movements in Leeds for a joint response to the triple crisis.

The speakers will include:

– Anne Chapman (Green House Think Tank, Director of LESS Lancaster),
– Jonathan Essex (Green House Think Tank, Green councillor)
– Penny Wangari-Jones (Racial & social justice activist, Director of Racial Justice Network)
– Julia Steinberger (Professor of Ecological Economics at University of Leeds, IPCC lead author)
– Paul Chatterton (Our Future Leeds, Professor of Sustainable Futures at University of Leeds)
– Scott Archer-Nicholls (Scientists for XR, climate scientist at University of Cambridge)

The event starts at 7pm with doors from 6.30pm for food, welcome and networking.

The event is free but please register here so we have an idea of numbers! https://facing-up-to-the-triple-crisis.eventbrite.co.uk

We hope to see you there for a thought-provoking and engaging evening!
