Keep Our NHS Public

Leeds Keep Our NHS public is a Leeds branch of the national campaign against privatisation of the NHS and the resulting damage from the Health and Social Care Act
Health
Details:

Leeds Keep Our NHS Public was set up in 2011.

We  oppose the White Paper “Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS” and the increased privatisation of the NHS in general.  The Department of Health NHS White Paper was published on 12 July 2010. Its stated aims are to increase patient choice and improve efficiency in the NHS. The key proposals include rapid scaling up of GP consortia to become publicly accountable for managing the local health budget, the role previously undertaken by Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). PCTs will be abolished by 2013 and all hospitals to become Foundation Trusts (self governing)

We created a campaign in Leeds with health professionals and patients concerned that

  • the NHS is being fragmented and sold off to the private sector, potentially sacrificing service quality to the profit motive.
  • local NHS property and land being sold off to the private sector in Leeds and surrounding areas
