Would you walk a mile in someone else’s shoes?

‘Tales of a City Tours’ are running a series of monthly walking tours around Leeds city centre, led by tour guides with a refugee background.

Join us in celebrating the city’s diversity as we hear stories of culture and countries from around the world. The Tales of a City guides will ask you to walk a mile (or so) in their shoes as they take you on a journey around Leeds city centre, sharing their own personal experiences of being a newcomer to the city they now call home.

Where does it take place?

All of the tour meeting points are in Leeds city centre, but vary slightly depending on who your guide will be. Once you have registered for the tour, we will send you a confirmation email with the official tour starting point and other practical details. All tours finish at City Square by Leeds train station. In between that time, the tours will take you to a number of interesting stopping points in Leeds city centre, some you may know, some you won’t, and some you may begin to see in a completely different light, after hear our guides’ perspective.

Does it include food and drink?

The tour does not include food or drink, so please make sure you’ve had your lunch beforehand and are fuelled and ready to go!

Do you charge for the tour?

The tour is on a Pay-As-You-Feel basis, and you are free to contribute any amount to our guides at the end of the tour, if you’ve enjoyed it and feel you have learnt something! We are a not for profit organisation and your contributions help us to continue to fund our work. Our guides are paid above the living hourly wage for each tour, providing part time employment, financial support, lots of opportunities for skills development and work experience in the UK.

What happens if I’m running late?

Please, please, please do try to be on time for the tour! We’ve got a lot to share with you so we try hard to set off promptly. But we know life happens, so we will provide a point of contact on your confirmation email, do keep a lookout for it in your inbox.

What should I bring to the tour?

The tour goes on come rain or shine! Please come prepared with a raincoat/umbrella and/or hat and sunscreen if you feel you’d need one. We have various stops that are indoors in case we need to take shelter!

I would like to attend, but there are no more tickets available. What can I do?

Firstly, check our other events, as our tours run the first and third Saturday of the month throughout summer. We would also be happy to arrange a bespoke tour, if you have a group of min. 8 people – just contact us on talesofacitytours@gmail.com to find out more!

We look forward to seeing you on a tour!
