The Leeds University Union Big Band (LUU Big Band), formerly known as the Leeds University Union Dance Band, was formed in 1987 as part of the Leeds University Union Music Society.
Celebrating its 31st anniversary, the band has progressed from its humble beginnings to become a successful and independent semi-professional band that gigs around Leeds, the wider Yorkshire area and further afield.
This 21 piece Big Band auditions for members at the beginning of the academic year every September and plucks the best jazz players from the University and surrounding institutions to play with us for the forthcoming year. The band rehearses every Tuesday evening in the University Union.
LUUBB has flourished since it began and now performs at private functions and publicly organised gigs in some of Leeds’ most prestigious jazz venues including Seven Arts, HEART and Sela Bar as well as in the south of France in its famous yearly music tour.
