How can we make our environment more people-friendly? Would you like to be part of the solution – a workshop

About this Event

Background:

Leeds Civic Trust is launching a competition to create a more liveable Leeds by asking people to come up with ideas to make an area of the city that is currently dominated by traffic and roads more people-friendly. The Climate Emergency demands that we look for solutions – large and small, to move away from a car-dominated city to one which has people at its heart.

The area we have chosen is what we call “Eastside” – this includes St Peters Street, Kirkgate, York Road, Marsh Lane and East Street. It includes the large Quarry Hill estate, Saxton Gardens, the River Aire in the South and Leeds Minster.

We want people to come forward with ideas for how the area can be improved, using the Leeds Civic Trust’s Transport Vision as inspiration.

The workshop:

This first workshop will bring together experts, lay people, stakeholders, residents, partners and others – in a nutshell anyone with an interest in improving this part of Leeds. We will consider what the key issues and problems are in the area, how they can be addressed. We will also look at what we can learn from other towns and cities. Sandwiches and refreshments will be provided. The outcomes will help us to define an open competition inviting proposals to improve the area which we will launch on 17th February. A further workshop will refine ideas. We will exhibit the most interesting that come forward and produce a report in early summer with our findings which we will present to Leeds City Council.

Further information about Eastside, the competition and useful documents can be found here:

We hope you can come!
