You’ve never done anything like this.
Hack the Script is a drama group with a difference. We use interactive models of streets, neighbourhoods and cities to get you thinking about the future you want to live in. A future where people have the freedom to be themselves and make a decent living. A future which is sustainable, where early action on climate change meant we could keep global warming to just 1.5 degrees.
Looking at the year 2030, 2050 and even 2100, your challenge is to tell the stories of the individuals and communities who helped make that positive future a reality. Based on existing success stories, we will show how “people power” got the government and big businesses to do the right thing.
Some people would say it’s not possible, but we say let’s “Hack the Script!”.
We can keep global warming to 1.5 degrees, with existing technology. The challenge is figuring out how to change the behaviour of people using the most energy. And that requires people with imagination, people like you! So change the conversation. Change your community. Change the world.
Running every Wednesday from the 16th January to the 13th of March at 5pm till 6:30pm, Bloomin’ Buds Theatre and Cyclops Pedal Power will help you produce a drama piece. It will be shown at Stage@Leeds during British Science Week on Saturday the 16th of March.
The location will either be at our usual venue, Bridge Street Church, Bridge Street, LS2 7QZ, or in Beeston, and will be confirmed before the end of December. We have bus tickets available for anyone who needs them.
The play will be attended by other youth groups and members of the public. After the play, you and other young people from Cyclops Academy will help run group chats about how the play made them feel, and what it has inspired them to do. We will have stalls from Leeds groups working on a range of issues, from young people’s mental health to air pollution. We don’t want people to just go home afterwards, we want them to make a difference in their community!
All participants will be eligible for a Bronze CREST award from the British Science Association, which is really useful in UCAS applications. You will also learn leadership skills, and meet like-minded young people to run your own social action projects in Leeds.
And if you enjoy that you can join Cyclops Academy, a fun monthly group where we learn cool tech skills to make the world a better place. Check out our Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/cyclopspedalpower/
