Rainbow Junktion Community Cafe will be hosting a solidarity dinner, raising funds for the striking higher education staff on Friday 6th April 2018 from 19:00 – 22:30. There will be stand-up from renowned comic performers Rosie Dent Spargo and Bobbie Jones, and the Leeds UCU brand will be talking briefly about the cause. The event requires a £2 booking fee, but we also encourage you to donate a minimum of £15 for the food and enterainment on the night. All profits from the event will go towards supporting the strikes.

Proposed cuts to lecturers pensions could amount to a loss of £10,000 per year. Younger staff and those on casualized zero-hour style contracts are going to be particularly affected. For some, every day of striking costs a day’s pay. There are hardships funds in place to mitigate this loss, but since it is one of the longest HE stikes on record these funds are over stretched.

The chefs at Rainbow Junktion will prepare a delious 3-course meal from the surplus food that supermarkets unnecessarily dump (there will be vegan options available). The meal will be accomapnied by some live musics and a UCU speaker. Dessert will be served before 21:00, so if you need to dash off don’t worry, but you can also stick around to enjoy of the comic acts. There will be a bar to buy alcohol (beer, red & white wine; from which the profits will also go towards the hardship fund), and/ or BYOB.

Please email if you have any dietry requirments including if you are vegan. This is to help mitigate waste!
