20th June marks Clean Air Day – A national day of action around air pollution. In Leeds alone, 700 deaths every year can be attributed to our local air pollution, which is at levels that are breaking the law.
The actions of Extinction Rebellion have pushed the council to declare a climate emergency, but they are not acting on their words. An expansion of Leeds Bradford Airport is not only a direct contradiction to this declaration, but it set to put many more lives at risk through the increased levels of air pollution it will force on the surrounding communities.
So join us on Clean Air Day, for an anti-expansion demo at the airport from 12pm! Bring you’re banners, placards and bodies to show Leeds City Council, and the public that we won’t watch quietly while they destroy our futures.
This is not going to involved anything more than standing on pavements, so is very low-risk (fluffy), so please share with your friends, family and community groups!
