The first of a series of meetings on the theme “How can trade unions help create a low-carbon Yorkshire & Humberside?” organised by Leeds TUC’s Environmental sub-committee.

Link to join is below.

We look at the different “climate” technologies on the table and what drives the choice of pathways to a low carbon economy; the potential for decent sustainable unionised climate jobs; and the struggle for worker participation and democratic ownership and control of key sectors for the benefit of workers, communities and future generations.

Session one looks at the different options for space heating/domestic heating, considering the uses, advantages and disadvantages of different technologies, how they can be implemented, what they mean for workers and residents, and how they fit into the overall picture.

Confirmed speakers are:
Dr Les Levidow (Senior Research Fellow at the Open University)
Sam Mason (Policy Officer at PCS union)
Mike Childs (Head of Science, Policy and Research at Friends of the Earth)
Dr Tom Knowland, Head of Sustainable Energy and Climate Change at Leeds City Council
Speakers from UNISON and GMB have been invited

Format – brief presentations from each of the invited speakers, followed by Q+A and comments from attendees and brief responses from panellists, and ending with a key response to the discussion and summary of main themes from each speaker.

Meeting will be held on Zoom
