Summat 2016 – Workshop & Stalls Call Out

Posted 8 years ago

Leeds for Change is seeking workshops and stalls for its day long event on 23rd April 2016. The deadline for proposals is 1pm Monday 8th February.

Workshops:

We welcome proposals that are aimed at a diverse audience of young people and adults from across the city – creative and fun, engaging and inspiring, challenging yet accessible.

more creative workshop

At previous Summats, participants have enjoyed the diversity of different kinds of workshops, some discussing inspiring ideas, some getting physical, some making something beautiful and lots more. Most important is to get people in your workshops talking or doing something practical, so no lectures please! There is a great resource from Seeds for Change on running workshops and we’re happy to help you think through how to make your workshop engaging and creative.

We’d love to see a big mix of workshops that fit into one or more of our aims of the day:

Access:
This could mean information and introduction sessions, giving the opportunity to learn about and discuss issues, ideas and campaigns. (e.g. Sexual violence: busting myths and promoting awareness or What’s happening in Syria and what can I do?)

Resource:
You could host a workshop which shares skills, knowledge and ideas to give participants more ways of connecting and campaigning. (e.g. How to get confident at public speaking; What should we do to prevent future flooding in Leeds?, or How can we make campaigning more accessible?)

Practical:
Can you think of a way for people to use their hands to engage with an issue you care about? Making something, crafting or doing something physical are great ways to make your workshop memorable. (For example, How to build a bike powered generator or Puppet-making for a striking campaign stunt)

All workshops will be 50 minutes long and will take place between 11am and 5pm on 23rd April 2016 at Leeds University.

Stalls:

Your group must be signed up to Leeds for Change if you would like a stall. If you are not already signed up, please visit the ‘how it works for groups’ page to find out more.

Stalls will be mainly at the back of the Michael Sadler Building, and will be allocated randomly. You will receive an exam desk sized table of approximately 1m square. You are welcome to put anything on the desk and bring up to one upright banner, but please do be considerate to your fellow stall holders. Stalls will need to be set up by 9.30am, and can be packed up from 5pm.

Please contact us at info@leedsforchange.org.uk if you have any queries about workshops and stalls at Summat 2016.

We ask that groups make a contribution, if possible, for their stall. We suggest a donation of £10 if your group raises less than £1000 a year, and £20 if your group raises more than £1000 per year. We will let you know how to make a contribution once we have confirmed your stall.

About Summat

The Leeds Summat events aim to gather diverse people from across Leeds and the North to get connected, become inspired, and develop or join action to change the world.

This event follows on from three Leeds Summat(s), in 2009, 2011 and 2014. A total of 2700 people have been to a Leeds Summat.

You can see the 2014 programme online and check out some photos of the day.

Now the event is hosted by Leeds for Change in collaboration with SenjaNet.

What is Leeds for Change?

Leeds for Change aims to strengthen the existing cooperation between social change groups in Leeds, draw in others who want to get involved and make it easy to share skills and resources.

The project has been started as a collaboration between Leeds Tidal, Together for Peace and Taking Soundings. We have made a website to help meet these aims which can join as an individual and a group: www.leedsforchange.org.uk

How can I keep up to date with Summat New?

You can check back with the event page on this site.

See you there!
