The AIDS crisis throughout the 80’s was one the the biggest public health crises in recent history with around 32 million deaths since it was first identified.
Prejudice, government inaction and lack of knowledge played a huge role in the spread of the virus. Mass action for the LGBTQ community, other effected groups and supporters putting on hospitals, drug companies and politicians forced action and led to significant breakthoughs in treatment and the fight against the virus.
For Pride month Leeds Socialist Party will meet to discuss this struggle, it’s links with the ongoing fight for equality and lessons we can learn for today.
