One Foot in the Rave’s Chinwag series goes on to sit down and have a good chat with some of the icons of the acid house scene, which shaped both this city and the music scene as we know it. This event features an interview with Steve Raine of Hard Times fame.
Hard Times was opened in 1993 by Steve ‘Rubel’ Raine , Donna Skinner and Pete Jenkinson in a little-known town called Mirfield, in West Yorkshire.
They called it Hard Times because at the time they were all skint – but it is also the name of a Dickens novel, set in a place called Coketown.
Hard Times made history, being one of the first UK clubs to base its music policy around US house and garage. From one amazing night, they have continued to write and re-write history, time and time again.
Twenty five unbelievable years have thundered along, leaving a mountain of memories and a heap of casualties along the way. Yet, after all these years, the club continues to encapsulate the very meaning of what we love and know as Hard Times.
