This month we will be finding out all about growing salads and then swapping and learning about the seeds in Leeds!
The social starts at 6.30pm and until 7pm we will have an open space for socialising and chatting to one another with soup and bread (PAYF).
The talks/activities will start at 7pm and we will have a break at around 8pm after announcements about upcoming events, before the second half of the social.
In the first half of the evening Jane Thurlow and Tony Chalcraft from York Organic Gardeners Association will be sharing their experience and knowledge about growing salads.
In the second half we will be swapping seeds from across Leeds,l helping to protect local biodiversity. You will also be making a stand against the increasing control of the seed supply by a handful of large companies.
We will set up:
– A more formal swapping area: if you’ve got seeds from a particular plant that you love, please bring them in a labelled packet/envelope to seeds to swap for someone elses treasured seeds.
– A free-for-all table: any unlabeled, left over and unwanted seeds which you don’t mind giving to a good home. We will have envelopes and pens to label them up and take them home in.
All are welcome – children (if accompanied by an adult), newbies or regulars! The socals are deisgned to cater to a range of expereince and knowledge – it’s the perfect space for learning something new, building on your current knowledge, or meeting new like-minded people.
As usual, we will also have a market stall so feel free to bring along products and wares that you have grown or made yourself to sell.
