On 7th October, John McDonnell finally appeared to acknowledge what has long been argued by benefits campaigners, claimants and many DWP workers: that no amount of tinkering will make Universal Credit fixable, and that it must be halted. Yet, even as evidence of UC-related destitution, homelessness and mental health distress pile up, the official Labour line remains that Universal Credit should be “paused” until certain elements have been “fixed”.
Elen Robottom & Dave Kirk (2 Leeds based campaigners) will help us discuss How we can stop Universal Credit.
