Join HOPE not hate Leeds for a 2-hour participatory workshop on how to navigate difficult conversations about migration!

Debates on migration and prejudice can be uncomfortable, upsetting or angry, and often do little to change anyone’s mind. At the same time, fighting for a progressive stance on these issues is more important than ever, and to do so it is paramount we learn how to successfully listen to and talk with people who hold different views.

This workshop is designed to give participants the confidence and skills to have more effective conversations about difficult topics, and to teach how to create a space where people are listened to and ready to listen. Whether you are an activist with canvassing experience, or just someone who wants to do more in your everyday conversations to counteract racism, this workshop will equip you with the tools necessary to create a respectful environment where prejudiced views can be challenged.

Key elements of the session:

– Who are we speaking with? How?
– Understanding prejudice: conscious and unconscious bias.
– Key techniques: listening, questioning, telling stories.
– Practice your skills!
