We will be joined by Leeds Young Labour to look at an excerpt (attached) from Ralph Miliband’s seminal work ‘The State in Capitalist Society’. It examines the 1945 Labour Government, and the role they played in moderating socialist ambitions, making the movement compatible with the capitalist state ?
Time spent in lockdown can often be lonely and we can feel disconnected from our comrades, workplaces, and community. It is, however, an opportunity for us to discuss and debate the great ideas that are across our movement ?
With the changes across our Party and in society, it’s vital that we are armed with the ideas and solutions to the challenges we face. This can be from reading groups, to debates on open questions, to film clubs. If you have any suggestions don’t hesitate to get in touch with Dave Aldwinkle, Political Education Officer, on daldwinkle@gmail.com.

If you are interested in joining the reading group then please read this and consider the following questions;
-Was the Labour Government of 1945 socialist?
-Can the Labour Government of 1945 be considered a success?
-Can a Labour government be progressive in domestic affairs and not foreign policy?
