**UPDATE: We have made the call to RESCHEDULE due to the weather. Just don’t want people unnecessarily risking getting there – play is important, but being safe is importanter.
Those who have already booked will also receive an e-mail. Watch this space!
Clowning is a joyful and spontaneous style of performance that begins with where you are. Clowns have only one mission – to connect and play with whatever’s around them.
In this full-day introductory workshop, we will loosen up with lots of games to gently tap into the curious, playful state that we already have hidden in each of us, before exploring more deeply the tools and techniques used to keep an audience laughing. These will include: rhythm, acknowledging the audience, and what to do when the ideas stop coming – “the flop”. But mainly we will be finding the pleasure of being on stage and sharing it with our friends.
This workshop is open to everyone. Although it’s great for performers of any kind wanting to find more presence, flexibility an connection with the audience, it’s also a brilliant way to increase general confidence, allow a bit of a release and have a few hours of ridiculously good fun!
Clowning is a brilliant way to connect with a sense of play, spontaneity, lightness and joy that is all too missing in modern life, so whether you have tonnes of experience or absolutely none, you are warmly invited to come and play…
This day will be guided by experienced facilitator, performer and still-learning human being Robbie Foulston. Priding himself on creating a fun, safe and supportive space for participants, he has trained in clowning with Bristol’s finest, Holly Stoppit, and in playful theatre with king of comedy John Wright.
Here’s some nice things people said about his last workshop at Open Source Arts:
“A very fun class that allowed me to reconnect with my inner desires to play”
“Robbie created an atmosphere of fun, creativity and also safety.”
“I felt very comfortable trusting the process and activities, and felt able to witness and explore myself through the session.”
