This fundraising event is a lovely family experience. Children get few chances to explore the outdoors after dark in day to day life, so give them a chance at this event.
Enjoy our Family Christmas event as lanterns and candles turn the garden into a magical space for you and your children to explore, the garden will be lit for an early event, as you explore you will discover a tiny magical world of fairies. There is also a chance for those children who want to do so to create a Christmas Craft.
Around the garden will be a series of minature tableau showing us how the fairy folk in our garden live over the 12 months of the year.
Santa is scheduled to visit us, rumours are circulating of a sleigh parked outside the barn and his elves will be along helping to distribute a small gift to each child.
Apart from severe weather (downpour, gale, deep snow) this event will run. We will move as much as we can indoors and under temporary shelters. Wrap up for the forecast and get on down!
Afterwards join us around the campfire, or retire to the cafe in the barn for hot chocolate, spicy Christmas drinks and mince pies.
The cafe will be open with simple hot food, cake, mince pies and hot punch: there will be a selection of lovely natural gifts on sale too.
The event is open from 16.00,but there are other activities on our busy site before this so please don’t come down early.
FAQs
Why do we need to book different tickets for craft?
We have found in the past that crafts could get very overcrowded which made it a less enjoyable experience for everyone. Some children just don’t enjoy craft, so it seems much fairer just to charge and take bookings separately. this meas you can book a craft ticket for one of your brood and just take the others round the site. A parent or guardian will need to stay and help your child with craft, please do not leave them unsupervised.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Fun for everyone from young to old. You need to buy a ticket for all children from toddler upwards, babes in arm go free. We don’t charge a lot for adults as we know you might want to bring extra grownups too, and we want the event to be affordable for all families, but we will ask for a donation of £2 per head on the door. The money raised by the event will go towards work in the Hollybush garden.
The event is run by volunteers from the Friends of Hollybush, current and ex-volunteers and current and ex-members of staff.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking on site is very limited so is only available for those with disabilities.
A variety of buses run close by, and Headingley Railway Station is only 10 minutes walk.
What do I need to bring into the event? Are there any safety issues?
The garden is lit by candles with real flames, so please keep and eye on your children, and don’t bring children in gauzy dresses.
A torch might be a good idea, and the garden is not paved, so you will all need to wear sensible outdoor shoes. It can get muddy too. It may take you 30 minutes to 1 hr to look around the garden (this will depend on your children) so do wear clothes that are appropriate for the oudoors. The fairies will rig rain shelters for the display but they won’t be big enough to cover you!
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

What’s the refund policy?
Apart from severe weather (downpour, gale, deep snow) this event will run. We will move as much as we can indoors and under temporary shelters. Wrap up for the forecast and get on down!
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Following some problems at a previous event please do bring you printed ticket with you, if you get your tickets from a friend please do bring the printed copy as if we don’t have the booking on the list we need proof to go to eventbrite/paypal to track the ticket money. PLEASE be able to quote the name used on Eventbrite to book the tickets.
If you buy from the cafe we need the paper ticket.
PLEASE let us know if you are booking only part of a group in, and the others are still expected, its saves us getting confused when we book you in by candlelight.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?
That’s fine, we know you might want to book in groups, that children fall ill and that life is sometimes more complicated than on-line booking allow. See the comment above though, make sure you bring the ticket and be able to quote the name it was booked in.
