‘Social Mobility’. What does it mean to you? Statistics can offer an insight into where folks are achieving an uplift in societal status – but statistics seldom report on downward movement.
The speaker has spent a lifetime working and supporting change in “northern inner cities”. David has led a charity for over 30 years with a focus on education through science and technology. He will review and reflect on situations which will illustrate the complexities of social mobility and offer his personal perspective.
His charity works with The Nuffield Foundation on a scheme that offers positive interventions through summer educational experiences for 17 years old. They offer insights into careers and opportunities to young people from areas where there is educational under achievement often coupled with low economic incomes.
David will advocate – educational opportunities are the key to a young people’s future, but then a lifestyle is a personal choice.
