DESCRIPTION:WORLD PEACE DAY EXHIBITION \nSaturday 21st September 2019 \n10am to 7pm \nRoundhay Quaker Meeting \n136 Street Lane\, Leeds\, LS8 2BW \nExhibition commemorating Quaker Service\, featuring the Friends Ambulance Service and The Friends Relief Service. \nIf you have wondered about the options for Conscientious Objectors (to military service) this exhibition gives some of the answers. Quaker involvement in large-scale relief started with the Irish Potato Famine in 1846. In 1870 Quakers provided relief to the civilian population during the Franco – Prussian War. In both the first and second world wars Quakers provided ambulance and humanitarian support. From 1933 onwards British Quakers provide assistance to victims of Nazism including 10\,000 unaccompanied children on the scheme now know as the Kindertransport. \nPreview of the Exhibition at 136 Street Lane on Friday 20th September from 2.30pm to 5.30pm \n  \nFilm   7pm on Saturday 21st September \nMoving to Mars \nFollow two refugee families from Burma over the course of a year that will change their lives completely. Forced from their homeland by the repressive military junta\, they have lived in a Thai refugee camp\, some for almost twenty years. A resettlement scheme offers them the chance of a new life; but their new home\, in the British city of Sheffield\, will be different to everything they’ve ever known. \nAdmission to both the Exhibition and the film will be free although donations will be welcome. \n
