SUMMARY:Women\, a Success Story - Not your usual tale of woe
DESCRIPTION:WORLDwrite & the Leeds Salon present:  \nWomen: a success story \nAfter a successful launch at the Battle of Ideas Festival at the Barbican in London\,WORLDwrite’s acclaimed new documentary Women: a success story – a liberating tale for a new generation\, will premiere in Leeds on Friday 29th March. already nominated for two awards\,the film which has been hailed as refreshing\, inspiring\, mind-blowing and witty will screen at the Carriageworks Theatre\, followed by a Q&A with WORLDwrite director Ceri Dingle. \nTickets for the waged are £5.00 and for the unwaged £2.50 and are available from eventbrite here: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/women-a-success-story-at-the-carriageworks-theatre-tickets-55970539390  \nNot the usual tale of woe \n Women: a success story suggests women’s equality today is something to celebrate and that contemporary ‘victim culture’ does women a great disservice. Forged as a timeline\, interwoven with archive\, forty women give us a fresh perspective\, tell us we have nothing to fear and can do anything. From across the generations\, they share their life stories\, what they overcame and what’s changed. We learn of women in the cotton mills\, life during the war\, the 1984 miners’ strike\, from outdoor loos\, terry nappies and illegal abortions to pre-marital sex\, freedom and making it in what was once a man’s world. The film urges us to revel in our progress and do it with men not against them. \nWatch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-n8kpFBgac \nFabulous Feedback \n‘What an inspiring and uplifting film! Women: a success story tells the story of modern feminism through the voices of women who lived through it. Their accounts remind us how restricted women were in the past but also the way in which so many women developed the confidence to challenge the status quo. Witty\, intelligent and thoughtful\, the interviewees talk openly about their experiences of relationships\, work and politics. Most interesting is their empathy for the men in their lives and the concern about certain aspects of contemporary feminism. A documentary rich in wisdom and insight – everyone interested in feminism ought to watch it.’ Munira Mirza\, director of HENI talks and former London deputy mayor for Education and Culture \n‘Funny\, shocking and moving\, an inspiring timeline of generations of women with great stories who don’t see men as a problem\, so refreshing. A stunning visual essay and hugely entertaining.’ Viv Regan managing editor\, spiked \nAn excellent full review of the film entitled You Go Girlfriends by Andrew Collins\, film reviews editor for the Radio Times is available here: https://wherediditallgorightblog.wordpress.com/2018/12/05/you-go-girlfriends-2/ \nWe hope you can join us on Friday 29th March at 7pm at the Carriageworks Theatre\, for a unique opportunity to see the film and please do invite your family\, friends and anyone you think may be interested. \nFor further details visit www.worldbytes.org email world.write@btconnect.com Tel (+44) 0208 985 5435 \nWORLDwrite is a Registered Charity No 1060869 \nWORLDwrite was 2018 winner of the Young People Now Arts & Culture award \n
