SUMMARY:This Is Who I Am
DESCRIPTION:“Then they separated us. We tried to say no\, we applied for asylum as a couple. They say we don’t have any civil evidence that we are a couple. And we’re like – how can we show you any civil evidence if homosexuality is forbidden in my country?” \nThis is Who I am presents first-hand accounts of LGBT+ people seeking asylum in the UK about their experiences in their own country and on arrival in the UK\, addressing the particular challenges they face. These accounts are read by members of the Actors for Human Rights Network\, an outreach project run by Iceandfire who are a London based theatre company exploring human rights stories through performance. \n“We put human rights at the core of everything we do to make accessible theatre for a wide range of audiences across the UK.” \nThis event is produced in partnership with The Peace Museum in Bradford and is presented during LGBTQ+ History month 2019 as part the museum’s current project Peace OUT exploring Peace and LGBTQ+ activism which will result in an exhibition launched during Bradford Pride 2019. #peaceout19 \nThis event will be chaired by Kala Sangam’s Alex Croft and will be followed by a post-show discussion. There will also be a short introduction to the Peace Museum Bradford and their Peace OUT project by project manager Rosanne Robertson. \n— \nFrom Spring 2019 the majority of performances at Kala Sangam are now Pay What You Decide\, which means you don’t have to pay until after you have seen a show! \nWe want to encourage more people to come and see shows at Kala Sangam\, more often. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford\, rather than a fixed ticket price\, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not. \nTickets are available to book in advance as usual\, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the show. You can then decide on a price which you think is suitable based on your experience\, which means if you haven’t enjoyed it at all\, you don’t have to pay anything. \nAll money collected helps pay the artists who have performed\, and we therefore hope you will give generously. \nPlease ensure you have arrived and collected your tickets 15 minutes before the show starts in order to secure your seats. At the end of the show\, you can decide what to pay\, either by cash or card on the door. \n— \nTo book or to find out more\, visit www.kalasangam.org or contact us on 01274 303340 or info@kalasangam.org. \n
