SUMMARY:Israeli Apartheid Week 2018 - University of Leeds #70yearNakba
DESCRIPTION:The University of Leeds – Palestine Solidarity Group is proud to host Israeli Apartheid Week 2018! \nIsraeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is an international series of events that seeks to raise awareness of Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people and to build support for the growing Boycott\, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. \nThis year will mark 70 years of settler-colonialism in Palestine. 70 years since the Nakba\, the catastrophe\, where countless massacres against Palestinians were committed and nearly a million Palestinians were forced into exile to make way for the new state of Israel\, forcing them into becoming the biggest refugee population in the world till today\, and subjecting the remaining Palestinians in Palestine to live under brutal military occupation\, siege\, and system of Apartheid rule that still stands today. \n2018 also marks 70 years of Palestinian popular resistance against the ongoing process of dispossession and ethnic cleansing\, since the 1948 Nakba. The Palestinian people’s resistance against colonisation has in fact been longer than that. From the Balfour Declaration of 1917 to the present moment- Palestinians have fought for their dignity\, their rights\, and their lands. \nSo join us this year for IAW 2018 and learn more about the non-violent Nobel Prize nominated BDS movement which seeks to end Israeli apartheid. \n*All our events are free and open to all\, we welcome everyone and kindly request you come with open ears and an open mind. We reject any form of discrimination against any individual for their ethnicity\, nationality\, gender\, sexual orientation\, or religious views.*\n______________________________________________________ \nFriday 23rd\nIsrael-Palestine: Is it Apartheid? and is boycott justified and legal?\nby Professor Robert Wintemute\, KCL\nBusiness School Maurice Keyworth G.31\n18:00 – 20:00 \nMonday 26th\nARNA’S CHILDREN\nFilm screening\nParkinson Building B.08\n17:30 – 19:30 \nTuesday 27th\nSkateQilya: Resistance through Skating\nby Mohammed Othman\nParkinson Building B.08\n17:30 – 19:30 \nWednseday 28th\nCreation Under Occupation: Jenin Refugee Camp\nby Natalie Rose-Quartermass\nBusiness School Western LT G.01\n18:30 – 20:30 \nThursday 1st\nBritish Bricks in Israeli Walls\nby David Cronin\nBusiness School Maurice Keyworth 1.32\n18:30 – 20:30 \napartheidweek.org #israeliapartheidweek #70yearsresistingnakba \n
