SUMMARY:How Revolution Stopped The First World War
DESCRIPTION:On the 100 anniversary of the end of World War 1 we talk about the often forgotten revolution that ended it. The war was ended by German workers\, soldiers and sailors inspired by the Bolshevik revolution who transformed there strikes and mutinies into workers Councils that took over the major cities of germany. The demand was an end to war\, a socialist Republic with the working class in control. This revoltion swept away the Kaiser and brought the slaughter of the Western Front to an end. But then it was betrayed by the “moderate” Socialist leaders who unleashed a rightwing paramilitary the Freikorps on the revolutionaries and drowned the hopes of a socialist germany in blood. Amongst the thousands dead was one of the leaders of the revolution Rosa Luxemburg. \nThis revolution is often overlooked and its place in ending WW1 minimised or seen only in the light of the later rise of the Nazis. We will try to discuss this story to bring this inspiring moment to life. \n
