SUMMARY:How do we create decent homes and liveable places for all in West Yorkshire (by Same Skies Think Tank)
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nHow do we create affordable\, green and comfortable homes? How do we change the planning system to create\, safe liveable places?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nSpeakers: \nIrena Bauman\, Bauman Lyons Architects \nPaul Chatterton\, LILAC co-housing and Leeds University \nNeil McKenna\, Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design and Leeds University \nHow do we create affordable\, green and comfortable homes? Who should build them? How do we insulate them? How do we change the planning system to create\, safe liveable places? \nPlease join us for a discussion about homes and places in West Yorkshire. \nIn May 2021 West Yorkshire is getting a mayor\, a role similar to Andy Burnham in Greater Manchester among others. \nWest Yorkshire is the areas covered by five local authorities\, Bradford\, Calderdale\, Kirklees\, Leeds and Wakefield\, around 2.5 million people in total. \nA significant section of the devolution “deal” struck between the government in London and West Yorkshire council leaders to establish a mayor covers housing and planning. \nWe’ll start with a brief expert review of the deal\, looking at what is new and what significance it has\, then we’ll look more widely at what we want from home building and planning in the region. \nThis session is open to anyone with an interest in the subject\, and it will kick off a shared\, public process to develop the right home-building plan for people across West Yorkshire. \nOur plan will be ready and waiting for the new mayor to make the most of\, starting from their first day at work in May 2021. \nThe event is part of AMP West Yorkshire\, a process of creating an alternative manifesto of new ideas for things the mayor can do. \nRead more about AMP here. \nAMP is being run by people and organisations across the region and hosted by Same Skies\, the regional democracy network for West Yorkshire\, founded by volunteers in 2015. \n\nPhoto by Andrew Seaman on Unsplash \n\n\n\n
