SUMMARY:Germinar #5: Gay Communism
DESCRIPTION:A germinar is a space of collective learning\, fun\, and repose. It has no learning outcomes\, no requirements\, no teachers\, and no curriculum. Instead\, we aim to create a collective that is self-run and self-taught\, that looks at austerity\, the neoliberal university\, and immigration policies in the UK in the context of queer lives and queer theory. \nWe intend to create a space that is open and unstructured for people to come share ideas and intervene without the stress and the labor of organising\, while still reflecting on the realities of our lives\, our city\, and our futures. We will avoid producing more politics at all costs. \n+++ \nOur last times together before summer pulled everyone into different journeys\, we talked about xenofeminism\, the abolitionist potential of things that might not previously have been abolitionist\, complicities\, the work of mourning\, and trans-exclusionary “feminism”; and as our discussions moved onto gender and labour\, the value form\, crypto currency and queer coding\, thinking of what potential there is for a “gay communism” seemed to make sense for our first autumn germinar. \nSend us/me anything you’d think might be an interesting fit\, in whatever media\, by this Wednesday\, 15th August. The readings will be ready to download\, read aloud\, print or leave on a bus seat by Sunday\, 19th August via leedsgerminar.tumblr.com. \nAs always\, the readings are not a condition for anyone to come\, no preparation is required to take part in a germinar. There will be snacks\, tea and coffee. \nOur venue Aire Place Studios is wheelchair accessible\, has gender-neutral toilets\, and is dedicated to fulfilling all other access and safety needs – please let us know if you have any questions or needs. It is free\, but donations to help support APS are most welcome. \n
