SUMMARY:Disobedient Theatre: a toolkit for change!
DESCRIPTION:This training is aimed at anyone wanting to use creative and disobedient theatre to bring about change. The workshop will equip you to: \n* Take artistic\, daring\, imaginative actions to help your campaigns and projects broaden their audience\, gain media attention and have bigger impact. \n* Use practical\, movement-based exercises with your groups to generate creative ideas and actions. \n* Use a ‘Sites of Intervention’ analysis to determine the most strategic sites for creative resistance. \n* Respond to opposition and work through conflict in your groups using theatre techniques. \nThis workshop fuses Theatre of the Oppressed\, and ‘Beautiful Trouble’ practice with techniques used by South African activist educators at Tshisimani Centre for Activist Education\, to create an interactive deep-dive into strategic\, creative\, cultural resistance. It is experiential\, and comprised of a variety of movement-based group exerci?ses (please wear comfortable clothing!) \nEVENT DETAILS\nSat 5th of October\, 9.30 – 17.00\nVegan lunch & refreshments provided\nVenue: Old Bridge Street Church\, Bridge Street\, Ls2 7qz \nHOW TO BOOK\nThere are only 30 places on the training so please book early to avoid disappointment. \nThere is a suggested donation of £5-£20 for the workshop depending on income\, however no-one will be turned away for lack of funds. We encourage wealth-sharing to allow the workshop to be accessible to everyone and to help us to cover the costs of facilitators time\, venue and refreshments. The venue has step free access. Please email maia.kelly@leedstidal.org if you have any requests for other things we could do to support your learning and make the training more accessible and comfortable! \nFACILITATORS:\nAylwyn Walsh: is a South African artist\, activist & scholar who has worked in the contexts of criminal justice. Her work relates to mental health\, social exclusion and teaching creative arts practice. She is a recent Leeds transplant also keen to build community. \nPaul Routledge: Paul has a been a scholar-activist for the past 30 years working in environmental\, social and climate justice movements in the UK\, South Asia and\nSoutheast Asia. Paul is a Tidal board member\, and Theatre of the Oppressed facilitator. \n
