DESCRIPTION:Over the last thirty years\, just 100 companies have been responsible for 71% of global carbon emissions. Amongst them: Shell\, BP and ExxonMobil. \nAnd who finances these companies? Banks like Barclays. \nBarclays alone has funnelled $85 billion to the fossil fuel industry since the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015\, an agreement they signed up to support. That makes them Europe’s biggest funder of fossil fuels. \nIf we want a sustainable and just future\, we need to turn off the taps powering oil\, gas and coal extraction. We need Barclays to divest from fossil fuels. \nTogether\, we can make it happen. \nThis event will give you the skills you need to join a national network of activists exerting pressure on Barclays. \nWe will also be hearing from:\n– Alex Sobel\, MP for Leeds North West\n– Youth Strike 4 Climate\n– Chris Saltmarsh\, People and Planet\n–\nThe event is open to all students and community members.
