SUMMARY:Aviation and the Climate Crisis (Leeds)
DESCRIPTION:An inspiring event exploring the climate impact of aviation\, flight-free travel\, and how people power can save the world. \n“How can we solve the climate crisis?” \nScientists give us little over a decade to slash our emissions\, with the IPCC recommending an individual carbon output of 2.3 tons annually. With one trans-Atlantic flight emitting up to 3 tons there is no doubt that flying less is a vital part of our action on climate change. \nYet despite Parliament declaring a climate emergency\, the aviation industry continues to expand\, with targets of carrying over 8bn passengers by 2035. \nSo\, is there anything we can do about it? \nWe will hear from speakers exploring the issues\, including what difference individuals can make\, what action the government needs to take\, and if there is an answer to the coming climate crisis. \nSpeakers:\nJefim Vogel UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS\nAnna Hughes FLIGHT FREE UK\nMilena Buchs UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS\nEd Carlisle LEEDS GREEN PARTY \nThis event will be held at the Old Bridge Street Church\, Bridge Street\, LS2 7QZ. Please note this is different to the Bridge Street Community Church. It is the former Bridge Street Church\, just across from the Playhouse. \nTalks will begin shortly after 7pm\, with a short break before the panel session. We aim to finish the panel session by 9pm. \n
