SUMMARY:Andrew Cooper : Discussion from the frontline of climate change
DESCRIPTION:Following the #StopBrexit March and rally\, The Green Party invites members\, supporters\, friends and anyone else interested to come in from the cold for hot cup of tea and discussion about the new way of putting our collective responsibility for climate change into a local context…. Locally Determined Climate Change Contributions. \nGreen Party Councillor\, and European Committee of the Regions Rapporteur\, Andrew Cooper\, developed and introduced the concept of Locally Determined Climate Change Contributions. \nThis concept was first adopted by the European Committee of the Regions\, before being adopted in November 2017 as an official part of the final declaration of the COP23 World Climate Summit \n“Establishing targets agreed at a local level could give us the boost we need to actually achieve the carbon reductions that need to happen to prevent runaway climate change. LDCs also give us the opportunity to make action on Climate Change more relevant to citizens as they see action at the local level led by their Local or Regional Authority”\, said Cllr Cooper. \nLocally Determined Climate Change Contributions is a model that shares responsibility better between national\, regional and local government bodies. \nIt enables individual local councils to understand what their areas contribution to climate change currently is\, and what the area needs to reduce this to in order to be pulling their weight in the international effort to bring climate change under control. \nAndrew will introduce the LDCCC concept in more detail\, look back at what was achieved in Bonn and what the prospects are for positive action to significantly reduce global carbon emissions. \nThere will also be plenty of time at the end for Andrew to answer any questions. \nWe also hope that this discussion will help to answer the much asked question of ‘but what can one Green Party Councillor achieve’\, as Councillor Cooper has demonstrated that the answer is ‘anything up to securing an international climate change agreement’.\n—\nThere is no need to register and entry is free. \nThe event starts at 5pm but doors will be open from 4pm with hot food and refreshments on sale for a small price to help cover costs. \nThe venue is disabled accessible but unfortunately does not have hearing loop facilities. \nPlease email leedsgreenparty@hotmail.com with any questions. \nMore information about what Locally Determined Climate Change Contributions are can be found on Councilor Andrew Cooper’s blog.\nhttps://greeningkirklees.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/locally-determined-contributions-new.html \n
